Coal mine collapses in Komi Republic, 1 miner presumably dead

MOSCOW, Jun 23 (PRIME) -- The Intinskaya coal mine located in Russia’s Komi Republic, belonging to a small independent producer Intaugol, has collapsed with one miner staying under debris showing no observable vital signs, a source in emergency services of the republic told PRIME on Friday.

“A body was found under the debris, we can see it, but it shows no vital signs,” the source said.

After collapse of the mine, 191 miners were brought up to the surface. Out of 16 miners that were located in the collapsed part of the mine, 15 successfully reached the surface.

The region’s Investigative Committee said in a statement that it was already checking the incident.

In March 2016, the Intinskaya coal deposit of Intaugol caught fire and 55 miners were evacuated from the site. The Federal Service for Environmental, Technological, and Nuclear Supervision closed the mine until its compliance with all rulings of the service. Production at the mine was restarted in April 2017.
